blurry buzzard

Or as we call them around here 'Tourist Eagles'. Mirror, signal, pull over, switch camera on, point, focus, zoom, click, and he's gone... today I also missed catching a great crow riding the strong wind at the top of the Bealach, and a Heron on the wing.

goodie bag packing

every year at Hi-Ex, we give 'attendees' bags jam packed with freebies, these are all sorts of things donated from comics publishers, film companies and all sorts, its incredible how generous they all are! This year thanks to the ever helpful Alan Henderson's tip off we got 500 Hardbacked graphic novel books donated by the European Union publications office. other great stuff from Panini, Beano, Markosia, DC, Rebellion, MVM anime company, Dark Horse, DFC libraries, Forbidden planet & more !

The first 500 folks through the door will be very lucky!  Rich on packing and the folks we can rope into box lifting duty however are NOT. I should also thank the couriers & posties at this time of year who patiently trudge all this stuff down our steep steps.

snow spiral

Noticed a couple of days ago what appeared to be a spiral up on the hill opposite, made in the snow, misty clouds cleared enough today to photograph it, the zoom reveals that disappointingly it isn't a spiral, but it was still a nice idea, that truth is more swirly than I could get away with in art.

mussels

Low tide walk today. ate some of these recently, a different sort of pearly effect on your teeth. I recommend gathering them further west up the loch where its less gritty.

over the hill

a quick hop over the hill to taxi the young folk. dog run about. still big snow patches & iced lochs up there.spring down below. I can understand why someone would want their ashes spread on the top of it, what  I'm not so sure about is the people who spread those ashes in a heap by the car park where people dump their ash trays ...come on they could have walked a few feet up into the rocks at least?

rain-sweet crows

So someone had left a sweetie necklace hanging on a bush, or was it a gift to the ancient fairie folk? Then I stalked a whole posse of crows along the beach- yes I said posse- they were walking along pecking at low tide bugs, the ones at the back of the gang -posse, whatever - would take turns and fly to the front, the whole group -gang- moved along slightly faster than I could creep up on them. Then they were gone, one shot of the whole flock- hover, murder-  in flight was all I got. Crows are great.

Wednesday 3 March 2010

a sunny day for a fire

As someone said today, 3am on a windy night would have been a different story. I feel very privileged to do a job like this where we do, people travel the world to see scenery like this & we tank across it in a fire engine. Another couple of weeks & the snows will melt then the dreaded exhausting muir burning starts. spectacular but I'll be way too puffed out to take photos !
